I SO wish I could figure out how to do everything I want to do. I feel like a rain barrel with so much rain coming in that I can’t catch it all — it just flows over the top.
But in the totality of human experience - geez, life here at Three Blind Men & An Elephant is pretty great these days!
Workshop Updates
First: WHOA! Our October workshop is sold out and has a waiting list; our June workshop has only one seat left; and our March workshop only has three seats left. Big shouts-out to our sponsors Hasselblad, Adorama and Saal Digital. If you’re thinking about joining us already or want to learn more, check out the details here.
Fujifilm X100V
Next: Fujifilm has released its fifth generation X100V (ergo the V, thought it’s pronounced like the letter - “vee”). We got a few hours hands-on with it, and learned it offers significant operational advances over the F. It’s going to be very popular. In fact, I hear it already is. Check out pricing & availability here.
Lenses
Next: three reviews of three incredible lenses.
We’ve finally released episode 2 in our series “The Last Lens You’ll Ever Buy,” and this time it’s Nikon’s Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.8. I think it’s reason enough to buy into the Nikon Z system. I like it so much I wish they’d make it available in Leica L-mount for our SL2 and CL. Check out pricing & availability here.
Hasselblad recently announced their “45P” the very small, very inexpensive (by Hasselblad standards, anyway: $1,100) medium format 45mm f/4. A 45mm f/4 lens may not sound esoteric (it’s not), but this one lens has changed my perspective completely on the X1D as a street camera - it’s now AWESOME (with a couple of tweaks). Check out pricing & availability here.
Fujifilm released their new 45-100mm f/4 for their medium format GFX line, and that was excuse enough to take it over to Coney Island attached to a GFX100. We loved it. Check out pricing & availability here.
“Sublime Manhattan” with Laz Baptiste, the Nightographer
But after all is said and done, as always it’s what we DO with the gear. It was great fun sitting down with The Nightographer and bud Laz Baptiste to learn what he was thinking when he made the incredible pano he calls “Sublime Manhattan.” And it is sublime!
