I was really excited to learn that Peak Design had committed to donating 100% of the profits on its Travel Tripods sold between April 7th and 10th to COVID-19 relief and global climate change initiatives.. I was delighted to partner with them on the resulting video. I was surprised by how much I liked. the tripod. I’m not giving it back.
As I write this, It’s shortly before 9:00PM New York time on the 10th. There are only a couple of hours left to buy a great tripod AND make a contribution to two incredibly important initiatives.
Just sayin.’
Full disclosure: I DO receive an affiliate commission on these sales, but that’s not why I was and remain so excited. Hold that thought just long enough to read on.
Our very small ding in the universe was to organize a global “home photos” competition sponsored by our friends at Adorama, a “make lemonade from lemons” response to the incredibly vicious, capricous COVID-19 disease.
In little more than a week, we received just over 350 entries across 40 countries and six continents, and there are some extraordinary images (and stories behind them).
Earlier this week we announced our ten finalists. Claudia and I will select our Grand Prize winner who will win a Fujifilm X100V. But voting has now begun to select the winner of our People’s Choice award. For those of you seeing this in email, you can learn more about it here. And please do vote for your favorite, as our People’s Choice winner will receive a 10.2” Apple iPad.
BTW: Claudia took the thumbnail for this video using a $3500 Sony a7R IV - and a $380 Viltrox 85/1.8. In early testing, this lens is exceeding our expectations — which is FASCINATING.
With our governor ordering a shelter-in-place order in our state, Claudia and I finally had the time to put together our first ever photobook, now available for pre-order here. It’s a love letter to New York city and street photography, and we shared how we created the proof of concept with Saal digital. In fact, they’re offering a discount to encourage you to explore the outstanding quality of their product. Doing a photobook is a GREAT project, and we are delighted to partner with Saal.
Having a large, high resolution, properly calibrated monitor makes a BIG difference in a project like that, so the arrival of BenQ’s SW 321C 32” 4K monitor was absolutely providential. I refuse to give it back, too.
